D.s & Durga Burning Barbershop
Top Notes: Spearmint, Lime, Hemlock spruce
Heart Notes: Lavender Absolute, Turkish Rose
Base Notes: Burnt Oil, Vanilla, Hay
A fire broke out in the Curling Bros. barbershop in Westlake, N.Y. in 1891. All the shaving tonics with their spearmint, lime, vanilla and lavender burned. A charred bottle was found half-full. It smelled like this.
Charred, reduced and dark, this scorched blend of vintage gentlemanly notes has been vividly re-created by David Moltz of D.S. & DURGA in all its pungent, roasted glory. The resonance of Burning Barbershop is quite magnificent; a sweet rubbed spearmint note mixed with offbeat salted lime creating wonderful fumes of nostalgia. Lavender is a beautiful rich addition, smoky, hot and sugared, crumbled across the embers of the cologne’s base notes. Be careful to not miss the most amazing, delicate vanilla as it dances softy in the smoke, tempering the excesses of bitter citrus and metallic pyrotechnics. A black, rubber whiff of night pervades the drydown, as if the skin is releasing soot into a starless sky. A scent of darkened wonderment.
